The public is invited to participate in the “Hook Em for Caleb” Fishing Tournament planned for Saturday, August 17, 2019. In March, 14-year-old Caleb Bennett suffered a major brain injury as a result of a boating accident and proceeds from the benefit will be given to his family to cover medical expenses as he continues to recover.
The fishing tournament, held at the Bradenton Yacht Club, located at 4307 13th Street West in Palmetto, will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30am and the weigh-in will be held at 4:30pm. The event will feature a $500 prize for first place and $250 for second place for snook, trout and redfish with three in-shore divisions: Juniors (under the age of 17), Adult Men and Adult Women (18 and older). Tournament entry fees will be $125 for six people per boat for the junior teams division, and $250 per 6-person team for adults. Teams will meet on Friday, August 16th for a mandatory “Captain’s Meeting” to discuss rules and tournament information.
During the event, a kids fishing tournament will be held from 9am – 10am for $25 per entry and includes a bucket and a tournament t-shirt. The benefit will feature a silent and live auction with items including a week-long vacation at a cabin in North Carolina, Buccaneers tickets and a 100-hour maintenance service on outboard motors.
Food, served by the Bradenton Yacht Club, will be available to purchase for $12 during the hours of 1:30pm – 6:30pm and will feature options including hamburgers, hot dogs and pulled pork barbecue with a variety of sides.
Sponsors include Yellowfin Yachts, Manasota Flooring, Christie’s Plumbing, Conley Buick, Manatee County Cattlemen’s Association, Manatee Junior Cattlemen’s Association, Mainspring Communications and Shake Station.
